PRESIDENTS MESSAGE FOR 2012 SEASON

Let me first thank my teammates for putting their faith in me and re-electing me to steer the Club in the coming cricket season for the year 2012.

Last year’s performance was indeed worth being proud of our achievements. From 2010, when we won 6 of the 18 matches, in 2011 we improved with 11 wins of the 18 games. That’s close to 50 % improvement in our past performance. Sunil Rajan ( Captain) and Rishi Gupta, bagging the coveted BEST BATSMAN and BEST BOWLER awards for Division 6 - my personal congratulations to both of them on their amazing achievement. Our team, although did not go up in the Division showed the potential of greater heights. Considering this was just the second year of INDCAN in the British Columbia Mainland Cricket League, I think we are on the right path in building a formidable opponent for any team in the League.

There were some new players like Ankit Pathare, Omkar Shevade and Venkat Konasani who added to the all round performances both by the bat and ball. They have brought more depth to both these departments and I hope we can have their services for a long time to come. Our last year’s performance could have been steps better if we had taken our catches. The old motto of “catches win matches” proved ever so right in our case. We need to improve in our skier catching which caused us to lose few matches. Let’s take this as our focus for the new season which begins in April 2012. Over all, in the other departments of the game we were on par with any other team in our Division. The introduction of one or even two good spinners in the team would help better this year’s outcome.

Our indoor cricket has been steadily helping us improve the team performance. This format of the game did show some results on the field, specially the close catching and run outs with sharp throws of the ball. The 20/20 format requires us to have a more aggressive approach, and to find a good spinner to complete the team.

I am sure that the shortcomings of last season will be a memory, once the INDCAN members take it as a challenge. I look forward to a stronger team performance in the coming 2012 season.

Our motto for 2012 season should be “TAKE IT!!”(the skiers)

Good Luck for the 2012 season!
